DPC produces project-based workshops that get students out of classrooms to interact with civic leaders and inquire how the city of Portland works. Our youth workshops are modeled after our adult programs, and are designed for students to make site visits and conduct interviews while working with DPC staff to produce media such as zines, video or artwork that communicate what they’ve learned.
In Spring 2011, DPC designed its first program for Portland Public Schools, a two-week workshop for da Vinci Middle School in which students researched the history of N/ NE Portland, and created comics based on their experiences. DPC is currently developing further project-based workshops and curricula for schools and after school programs in Portland.
