Things have been busy here at Dill Pickles Central and we are working diligently on putting together our next tour exploring local food suppliers. Unforeseen planning conflicts have resulted in us postponing this trip to Friday, October 16th.

The tour is shaping up well. The completely tentative and subject-to-change lineup includes: Bob’s Red Mill, Dave’s Killer Bread, the Oregon Food Bank and Widmer Brew Pub (where Steve Cohen, Chair of the Multnomah County Food Policy Council, will give a short lecture). Registration for the tour will be posted next week, when the complete itinerary has been confirmed.

In other news, the Dill Pickles Clearing House is about to launch two new publications. The first is a revised edition of Art for the Millions: the Enduring Legacy of the WPA, an audio CD and 28-page guide book about Portland public works projects. We will be doing a presentation and pre-release, Tuesday, October 6 from 6:30-7:45 PM, at Multnomah County Central Library, as part of the Zinesters Talking lecture series. The second publication, Brains, Brilliancy, Bohemia: Art & Politics in Jazz-Age Chicago is a volume on hobohemian culture in Chicago. Both publications will be officially released Wednesday, December 2 at Work | Progress, a benefit art show for the DPC at the Eyeful Gallery. More info to follow soon.

Finally, we would like to send a heartfelt thanks to everyone for your support. In just a few months, we’ve hosted two sold-out field trips, produced two publications, written our first grant, received significant media exposure and our Facebook group is 222 strong and growing. Just this week The Portland Mercury named us one of the best non-college courses! We encourage you to keep spreading the word to your friends and family, and look forward to putting some more things together soon.

sort of! you can “follow us” here: http://twitter.com/dillpickleclub, although we must say we have been terrible at tweeting and updating it. facebook seems to have more versatility so that’s largely our social media of choice for the time being. (this isn’t to say we won’t use twitter in the future…it just seems like one more thing to do!)

in the meantime, sign up to be our fan on FB here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ye-New-Dill-Pickle-Club/96769662378

    thx!
